Welcome to the new site for composer Brian Belanger. You’re here to listen to music…understood, got you covered…but before jumping to the Listen Page, learn a bit more about Brian, how he creates music and the studio he uses to produce inspiring scores for a wide range of media—a profession he has been involved in for more than 20 years. The 101Brian scores to picture at his studio in Royal Oak, Michigan, delivering cues anywhere in the world over high-speed internet (or if you prefer, a CD). MP3 or WMA files (pretty much any format, really) may be attached to emails for approvals; small files are ideal for auditioning the cue in your edit session, but not a good idea for the end product. Higher sampling and bit rates are sent via FTP, or burned on a CD. In addition to outboard and soft synth modules, Brian owns a vast assortment of virtual instruments that are used to either mock up a score or deliver final cues, depending on budget and time. Virtual instruments are real instruments—string sections, brass, woodwinds, piano, harp, guitar, bass, percussion, and even more exotic instruments—files that contain every playable note played in nearly every possible way. In capable hands, the results are strikingly realistic, pretty much de rigueur for the music scoring business today. If you are in the area, enjoy a comfortable visit listening to playback and watching your scenes. The studio monitors allow the music to sound its best. There’s a high back chair and a comfy footrest waiting, too. Brian’s BackgroundBrian has been professionally involved in video and film production since the mid-80s. Years before devoting his career to music, he worked as a producer and director, hiring composers whenever he could, but more often spending hours poring through music libraries trying to find the right cut—often a frustrating experience. Even for the tightest budgets, music was crucial to help move the show along. This is all to say that he has been in your shoes; he talks the talk, but more importantly, he listens and understands what works for a scene. A more in-depth biography can be found here. An extensive selection of Brian’s music may be found on the Listen Page... to paraphrase an old saying, a music cue speaks a thousand words…
